Embalming is defined as the disinfecting, preserving and restoration of the dead human body to a natural form and color. Embalming is a temporary process which prevents, retards and controls postmortem changes known as decomposition. Embalming bypasses the rotting stages, allowing for an eventual body breakdown through oxidation and dissolution.
エンバーミングとは、消毒及び殺菌、防腐そしてご遺体を自然な形や色に修復することと定義している。一時的な過程で、腐敗と言われる死後の変化を防ぎ、遅らせ、コントロールすることである。腐敗する段階で、酸化や分離を通してやがておこる身体の分解を回避または迂回をするのである。
